American Refugee
by
Eric Cherry

You wake up in the morning in your king-sized bed
Jump into the shower, blow dry your sleepy head
You grab your instant coffee, your instant breakfast, too
How'd life get so crazy? You haven't got a clue
But there's no time to consider, you gotta get to work
Get out on the freeway, it's totally berserk

Don't blame me
I'm just an American refugee
A red, white and blue prodigy

Blonde-haired and blue-eyed, she drove a T-top, too
Always wore Reeboks, she'll use the right shampoo
Every single hour of every single day
She's the right person in her little role play
Oh, she gets so lonely, so empty deep inside
She wants to know the truth so she watches Guiding Light

[repeat chorus]

A man and wife together, they eat their daily bread
They try to figure out just what that Bible said...
To help out those in need, to love them like yourself
They don't where to start, the Book goes on the shelf
Then Junior comes in, says "I got to get to work!"
But sister's in the bathroom, her blonde hair up in curls

[repeat chorus]
